ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Linus Ullmark made 34 saves as the Rochester Americans used their power play to beat the visiting Toronto Marlies 5-2 on Friday in American Hockey League action.
Taylor Fedun, Justin Bailey and Casey Nelson scored on the man advantage for the Buffalo Sabres' AHL affiliate (2-2-0), who also got an even-strength goal from Hudson Fasching and an empty netter from Dan Catenacci to round out the offence.
Kasperi Kapanen and Byron Froese scored for the Marlies (2-1-0). Kapanen now has two goals and six points in three games to lead his team in scoring.
Veteran Brooks Laich dressed for Toronto's AHL club for the first time since being demoted earlier in the month.
Garrett Sparks turned away 16-of-20 shots in a losing cause.
Rochester went 3 for 7 on the power play while Toronto failed to score on four chances with the man advantage. The Americans took four of the first five minors to start the game before the Marlies were handed six straight penalties to end the matchup.
