Dreger: Penguins not panicking

The Pittsburgh Penguins are not panicking at this stage of the Stanley Cup final.

While there was 53 minutes of forgettable hockey for the Penguins in Game 5, the first seven minutes or so was mildly spectacular.

The was a 47-second run in the offensive zone when Evgeni Malkin, Ruslan Fedotenko and Maxime Talbot absolutely controlled the puck, controlled the play and controlled the Red Wings.

While they'll walk away from Game 5 with those positives, the Penguins know they will have to be a more disciplined team. Things got completely unruly in the second period with dumb penalties from a team that is otherwise very disciplined.

The Penguins also need to find other players to support them offensively.

There seems to be a crossover effect. Henrik Zetterberg should nullify Sidney Crosby at both ends of the rink. Now that Pavel Datsyuk is back, he should do the same with the Evgeni Malkin.

Bill Guerin has got to step into this series and get some timely goals. The same thing can be said for Chris Kunitz and Ruslan Fedotenko. That trio has combined for only one goal in the series, while Detroit has Valtterri Filppula and Dan Cleary among others stepping up.

The Red Wings are getting the secondary scoring, and the Penguins are not.
