Toronto Blue Jays manager John Gibbons has a new contract, TSN has learned.

According to Jays’ sources, Gibbons is signed for 2016 and 2017 and the rollover clause, which was put in place under previous GM Alex Anthopoulos, has been eliminated. Gibbons has received a bump in pay to compensate for it.

Under the terms of Gibbons’ original deal, there was a clause that would preclude him from reaching "lame-duck" status. In that previous contract, a proviso existed whereby every Jan. 1, the contract became guaranteed for the following year with another option tacked on to it.

Gibbons, 53, is heading into the fourth season of his second stint with team. Under his watch, the team captured the 2015 American League East title and its first postseason berth since 1993. The Jays were eliminated in the American League Championship Series in six games by the eventual World Series champion Kansas City Royals.

Gibbons also served as the team's bench boss from 2004 to 2008.

In 1,096 games with the Jays, Gibbons has a 555-541 record.
