Cardinals continue atop NFL Power Rankings

The Arizona Cardinals remain the top team in the TSN.ca Power Rankings, ahead of the Carolina Panthers, Denver Broncos and New England Patriots.

The Arizona Cardinals remain the top team in the TSN.ca Power Rankings, ahead of the Carolina Panthers, Denver Broncos and New England Patriots.

It's not easy for teams to make big gains near the top at this stage of the season, so more of the movement comes further down the list.

The New York Giants jump from 17 to 13, the Oakland Raiders' road win at Denver earned them a move from 18 to 15, Washington's continued mediocrity gets them from 20 to 16 and Jacksonville's 51-point outburst boosts them from 22 to 18.

Going the other way, the Cincinnati Bengals fall from three to seven after losing to the Pittsburgh Steelers and having starting quarterback Andy Dalton injured. The Houston Texans took the big fall, from 13 to 22, going to T.J. Yates at quarterback.

QB Carson Palmer leads the league in yards per pass attempt (8.8) and yards per completion (13.7) while throwing for a career-high 307.9 yards per game, and his top three wideouts -- Larry Fitzgerald, John Brown and Michael Floyd -- make the Cardinals really difficult to match defensively.

The Panthers destroyed the Falcons, not just winning 38-0, but outgaining Atlanta 424 yards to 230, and taking the ball away four times. They'll try to continue their unbeaten run this week, likely with Jonathan Stewart out of the lineup.

As good as the Patriots have been, injuries and inconsistency at running back and wide receiver prompt more tinkering. Brandon Bolden and James White now have RB Montee Ball on hand to share running duties, while WR Leonard Hankerson has been claimed on waivers and could get a look on a receiving corps that has dropped too many passes.

The running back conveyor belt turns to Bryce Brown and Christine Michael (he's back!) this week, but the Seahawks are finding that they can have a successful offence that is focused on the passing game because QB Russell Wilson is in rare territory.
