Matt Dunigan's QB Analysis:
Anthony Calvillo is back and I'm sure AC is chomping at the bit to reintroduce himself to all his fans. I love having him back and I'm grateful he now will be able to focus once again on football. Marcus Brady and Brad Banks battle for the No. 2 job while Adrian McPherson and Ricky Santos are vying for that third spot. No shortage of arms in Montreal.
Duane Forde's Rookie To Watch:
Receiver Peter Warrick (Florida State) isn't your typical CFL rookie. The fourth overall pick in the 2000 NFL Draft, Warrick averaged 63 receptions and 671 yards per year in his first four seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals before leg injuries eventually landed him on the unemployment line in 2006. Alouettes GM Jim Popp had been pursuing him since that time knowing that, if Warrick can somehow turn back the clock, he'll be a valuable asset in the CFL. (Editor's Note - As it turned out, Warrick was unable to turn back the clock. He was released a few days after Forde filed his rookie watch.)
Chris Schultz's Overview:
For the Alouettes, it seems like everything is new again. Start at head coach, where they have gone from Don Matthews to Jim Popp, and now Marc Trestman. As training camp continues, a new energy is present. And part of that energy is having the Grey Cup in Montreal in November. With over 40,000 tickets already sold and the recent track record of success hosting the championship, there is not a CFL player that would look at this year's Grey Cup as anything but a special opportunity just because the game will be in Montreal. | Area of Strength | Needs Improvement |
| Jim Popp may have struggled on the sidelines but his ability to find talent is unquestioned. Now he can focus on what he does best. |
He may be headed to the Hall of Fame but 35-year-old Anthony Calvillo's numbers have declined the last three seasons. |
| Playoff-Bound? | Or Homeward Bound |
| New head coach Marc Trestman knows offence and Anthony Calvillo should reap the benefits, especially with general manager Jim Popp supplying the talent. |
As each year passes, the once formidable Alouettes get a little older and the record is beginning to show it. The rest of the East may be catching up. |
