Edwin Encarnacion will face the Toronto Blue Jays for the first time since signing with the Cleveland Indians on Monday night.

Encarnacion, who signed a three-year contract with the Indians in December, said Sunday he's not sure what kind of reception he'll receive when steps up to the plate as an opponent of the Blue Jays for the first time in his career.

"The fans used to like me there, but I don’t know,” Encarnacion told Cleveland.com. “We’ll have to wait and see. I’ll be ready for anything.”

The 34-year-old slugger added he “can’t wait” for the game Monday night against his former club. In 30 games with the Indians this season, Encarnacion owns a .217 average with five home runs, 11 RBI and one stolen base.

He said Sunday he made a business decision signing with Cleveland in the winter.

“I think it was the decision I needed to make because it was the best for me,” said Encarnacion. “My goal is to play this game for a few more years and try to win the World Series. It was a baseball decision for me.

    “It was tough to leave. I’d been there for a long time, but it’s a business.”

    He spent seven and a half seasons with the Blue Jays after being acquired in 2009 from the Cincinnati Reds.

    He was named to three All-Star teams with the Blue Jays and posted a two 42 home run seasons, in 2012 and 2016. He was drove in career-high 127 RBI last season.

    Though Encarnacion played 514 games with the Reds before joining the Blue Jays, he never faced Toronto as an opponent. On Monday, he'll open with a duel against Blue Jays pitcher Marcus Stroman, who makes his seventh start of the season and first since exiting with tightness last week. 

    The Indians sit atop the AL Central with a 17-13 record this season, while the Blue Jays are currently last in the AL East after an 11-20 start.
