Veteran defenceman Andreas Lilja will remain with the Red Wings after signing a two-year contract extension on Monday, just hours before the start of the free agency season.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but media reports say the deal is for slightly more than his previous $1 million salary.
Entering his eighth NHL season and fourth with Detroit, Lilja tallied two goals and 10 assists with a minus -2 rating in 79 games played last season.
A second round draft pick (54th overall) by the Los Angeles Kings in 2000, Lilja signed with the Wings as an unrestricted free agent in 2005, following two seasons with the Florida Panthers.
