The Nashville Predators have traded defenceman Marek Zidlicky to the Minnesota Wild for prospect Ryan Jones and a second round pick, and signed free agent winger Andrew Brunette.

Zidlicky, 31, is an accomplished power play defenceman, scoring 25 of his 43 points last season with the man advantage.

The 5-foot-11, 190-pound Czech blueliner has two years and $7-million remaining on his current contract.

Jones just completed a productive four-year career at Miami (Ohio) University, scoring 97 points in 84 games over his final two seasons.

A fourth-round pick of the Wild in 2004, 24-year-old Jones joined the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League following his college season and had zero points in four regular season games before notching two points in four playoff games.

Brunette, an unrestricted free agent, signed a three-year, $7 million contract with the Wild on Tuesday.

Brunette spent the last three seasons with the Colorado Avalanche after leaving Minnesota as a free agent in 2005.

"Andrew is a consistent offensive performer and an excellent teammate who helped create the culture of our team," Wild general manager Doug Risebrough said in a statement. "We are better, on the ice and in the dressing room, with him back.

"Not often do you get the chance to correct a mistake."

After leaving Minnesota, Brunette scored 70 goals and 135 assists for 205 points without missing a game for the Avalanche.

Brunette has 191 goals and 358 assists for 549 points in 788 career NHL games.
