Blues defenceman Erik Johnson suffered a knee injury while driving a golf cart during a team golf outing on Tuesday. The severity of the injury won't be known until Tuesday.

Johnson, the first overall pick in the 2006 NHL draft, was attempting to stop his golf cart and step out to hit his next shot when he jammed his right foot between the accelerator and brake and felt a painful tweak in his right knee.

"It's just a freak incident, and it's tough to deal with, but hopefully it's nothing," Johnson told the St Louis Post Dispatch.

An MRI on Wednesday was inconclusive because of the swelling, and the Blues said they will have to wait until Sunday or Monday to take another MRI after the swelling goes down.

Johnson will miss at least the first three days of training camp.

"It's swollen and all I can do is ice it," said Johnson,. "I can't do anything about it .. I could have done it at Forest Park or in the shower. The only thing that's going to make it better is having a positive outlook.''

Johnson finished his rookie season sixth on the team with five goals and 33 points in 69 games.
