Raleigh, NC (Sports Network) - The Carolina Hurricanes placed goaltender Cam Ward on injured reserve Sunday with a groin problem.
The 2006 Conn Smythe Trophy winner, Ward is 8-7-2 with a 2.68 goals-against average and .911 save percentage in 18 games this season.
The 24-year-old Ward, who was Carolina's first choice (25th overall) in the 2002 draft, is 89-61-15 with a 2.94 GAA and .899 save percentage in 175 career games.
In a corresponding move, the Hurricanes recalled defenseman Brett Carson from Albany of the American Hockey League. A fourth-round pick by Carolina in 2004, Carson has yet to appear in an NHL game.
