Raleigh, NC (Sports Network) - The Carolina Hurricanes activated goaltender Cam Ward from injured reserve on Friday.

Ward had been sidelined with a groin injury since November 30. The 2006 Conn Smythe Trophy winner has a record of 8-7-2 with a 2.68 goals-against average and .911 save percentage in 18 games this season.

The 24-year-old Ward, who was Carolina's first choice (25th overall) in the 2002 draft, is 89-61-15 with a 2.94 GAA and .899 save percentage in 175 career games.

In a corresponding move, the Hurricanes assigned goaltender Justin Peters to Albany of the American Hockey League. Peters did not appear in a game while serving as the backup to Michael Leighton.
