Patrick Roy paid a visit to Denver this week amid speculation he may return to the team he starred with as a player over five years ago.
According to the Denver Post, Roy met with Colorado Avalanche president Pierre Lacroix to discuss a position with the team.
Avalanche vice president of media relations Jean Martineau told the newspaper that Roy was in Denver for a short visit and is departing today.
Since retiring in 2003, Roy has been part owner and head coach of the Quebec Remparts of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, winning a Memorial Cup title in 2006.
The report indicates that Roy preferred to remain the head coach in Quebec as long as his sons, Jonathan and Frederick were playing with the Remparts. Neither of the two are with the team anymore, leading to speculation the Hall of Fame goaltender is ready to move on.
At the moment, former player Tony Granato is the head coach in Colorado but last month, the Avalanche fired general manager Francois Giguere and Lacroix has promised a new "management structure" going forward.
But when asked whether he preferred coaching or a front office position, Roy recently told Le Journal Montreal, "I'm not a papers shuffling guy so much."
