Rob Blake won't be testing the free agent waters on Wednesday, as the 39-year-old defenceman has signed a one-year contract with the San Jose Sharks worth approximately $3.5 million, plus bonuses.
He spent last year with the San Jose Sharks, putting up 10 goals and 35 assists in 73 games.
Blake was drafted 70th overall by the Los Angeles Kings in the fourth round of the 1988 NHL Entry Draft, and has achieved several accolades over the last 20 NHL seasons.
The Simcoe, Ontario native won the Norris Trophy in 1997-98 as a member of the Kings before being traded to the Colorado Avalanche in February of 2001, winning his first and only Stanley Cup that year.
He was also a member of the gold-medal winning Canadian hockey team at the Salt Lake City Olympics in 2002.
Blake has 233 goals and 514 assists in 1200 career regular season NHL games.
