Newark, NJ -- The New Jersey Devils re-signed defenseman Johnny Oduya to a multi-year contract.

"We are delighted to have Johnny Oduya stay with the organization," said Lamoriello. "He has developed into one of the more talented young defensemen in the National Hockey League."

Oduya, 27, posted career highs of seven goals, 22 assists and 29 points with 30 penalty minutes and played in all 82 regular-season games in 2008-09.

The 6-foot, 200-pound rearguard also skated in all seven post-season contests.

A report in the Newark Star-Ledger had the new deal pegged as a multi-year contract worth about $3-million per season.

Oduya has career totals of 15 goals and 51 assists for 66 points and 137 penalty minutes in 233 games. He made his NHL debut in 2006-07 by appearing in 76 games
with New Jersey. Oduya was signed by the Devils as a free agent, July 17, 2006, following three years in the Swedish Elite League.
