ANAHEIM, Calif. -- The Anaheim Ducks signed free agent defenceman Nick Boynton to a one-year, US$1.5-million contract on Thursday.

The 30-year-old played in 68 games with the Florida Panthers last season, scoring five goals with 16 assists and 91 penalty minutes.

"Nick is the type of veteran defenceman we were hoping to add to our lineup," Ducks GM Bob Murray said in a statement. "He's played over 500 NHL games and brings a physical presence to our team."

The six-foot-two, 220-pound native of Nobleton, Ont., has 32 goals and 96 assists in 505 career NHL games with Boston, Phoenix and Florida.
