Denver, CO (Sports Network) - The Colorado Avalanche on Thursday signed three- time All-Star right winger Milan Hejduk to a one-year contract extension through the 2010-11 season.
The crafty Czech has spent his entire career with the Avalanche, who selected him in the fourth round (87th overall) of the 1994 draft while the franchise was still based in Quebec.
"Milan has been an integral part of this organization over the past 10 seasons," said Avalanche general manager Greg Sherman. "We are pleased to have him under contract and are counting on his leadership both on and off the ice to help this team move forward into the future."
Hejduk led the club with 27 goals last season and his 59 points tied him with Ryan Smyth for the team lead.
"It was important for me and my family to continue my career with the Avalanche organization," said the 33-year-old Hejduk. "I'm excited about the direction of this franchise and look forward to being a part of it."
Hejduk captured the Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy as the NHL's top goal- scorer with a career-high 50 tallies in 2002-03.
In 783 career games, Hejduk has registered 312 goals and 345 assists.
