The Toronto Maple Leafs' goaltending controversy looks like it will be put on hold for at least a week.

The club announced on Thursday that Jonas 'The Monster' Gustavsson was placed on Injured Reserve because of a groin injury.

The rookie goaltender will be out for at least a week.

"I was examined yesterday, and they think I pulled it a little bit," Gustavsson said at pratice on Thursday.  "So I'll take it easy for a few days."

Head coach Ron Wilson said that he was going to rotate his goalies before Gustavsson's injury, but now there's an opening for Vesa Toskala, who didn't look good in the Leafs' first two games, to re-establish himself.

"Vesa is our number one goalie anyway and he'll play until further notice," Wilson said.  "This is an opportunity for him to take charge now without looking over his shoulder."

For his part, Toskala downplayed the early goaltending controversy and didn't seem too concerned with his start to the season.

"I got one point in the first game and lost the second one," Toskala stated on Thursday. "It's only two games, I'll try to win the next one when I play."

Toronto recalled Joey MacDonald on Emergency Recall from the AHL's Toronto Marlies to back up Toskala.

"I just want to come in and keep on playing like I did in training camp," MacDonald said.  "Training camp wasn't that long ago, and it's good to be back and get the opportunity."

Wilson expressed confidence in MacDonald's ability to play if the need arises.

"Last year, he was basically a number one goalie in the league," Wilson said.  "If things don't work out, I wouldn't hesitate to put Joey in there."

Gustavsson appeared in two of the Maple Leafs' first three games to start the season and has a goals against average of 3.09 in 97:27 minutes of play.

In his first career start on Tuesday against the Ottawa Senators, Gustavsson stopped 26 out of 28 shots.

MacDonald, who signed with the Leafs in August, has previous NHL experience with the Red Wings, Bruins and Islanders.
