CHICAGO - Chris Chelios could be back on the ice Monday, skating with the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League.

The 47-year-old Chelios, a Chicago native, was not re-signed by the Detroit Red Wings after last season. A Wolves spokeswoman said Thursday that Chelios had not signed and there would be no developments until the team returns from a road trip.

Chelios was limited to 28 games during the 2008-09 regular season because of a broken leg. He played in six games during the playoffs.

Chelios has played 25 NHL seasons, winning three Stanley Cups and three Norris Trophies as the league's top defenceman.

Chelios, who started his NHL career in Montreal, won two Stanley Cups with the Red Wings after being acquired from the Chicago Blackhawks during the 1998-1999 season.

He played nine seasons with the Blackhawks.
