Each week, the NHL on TSN panel voices its opinions on the hot topics of the day in the Wednesday Night Hockey Quiz.

Question 1: Sheldon Souray gets tripped into the boards by Jarome Iginla. Souray's teammate Steve Staios says that there should be an automatic penalty for putting a stick on a player who is going into the end boards regardless of the consequences. What do you think: should it be an automatic or discretionary penalty?

Craig MacTavish: It's a discretionary call. It's very similar to the non-touch icing, but the only difference is that the puck is in play. Jarome is not that type of player, so he's going after the puck. It's unfortunate, but I say a discretionary call.

Bob McKenzie: I'll say it's an automatic penalty. Unless you're actually trying to play the puck, and in that case Iginla was making no effort whatsoever to get his stick on the puck - he was putting his stick on the player. Nothing good is going to come of it, and Staios is correct.

Keith Jones: I'm saying discretionary. I like the way that Iginla was going in - actually I think he was trying to slow down, and I don't think he was trying to run Souray through the boards - and unfortunately Souray stepped on his stick. I would still make it the referee's decision.

Question 2: Which Chicago Blackhawk is more likely to be on Team Canada at the Olympics: Jonathan Toews or Patrick Sharp?

Jones: Sharp. If you think back, it was one of the more lopsided trades in the NHL - Patrick Sharp coming over from Philadelphia for Matt Ellison, and what has Sharp done since? Nothing but score goals. He's a tremendously gifted offensive player, and what I like most about him is that he's a multi-purpose winger. He can kill penalties, he's a smart hockey player, and he has the ability to play with players who are better than he is, and he would be a great fit on that team.

McKenzie: I'd like to see them both make it, but I'll say Toews because he offers so many intangibles and can play a fourth-line role, and can do a lot of things like faceoffs and penalty kill, and shot-block, and not just score goals - although he's off to a slow start in that regard.

MacTavish: Sharp can do all of those things. He's a very versatile player. I had him at one of the World Championships that I was at, and he's a very underrated player. I like him a lot, and he can play a lot of roles. Patrick Sharp for me.

Question 3: Nashville versus Colorado last week. Jason Arnott used a foot to score a goal, and it is ruled "no-goal". Goal, or no goal?

McKenzie: I say no goal. People are going to say "where's the distinct kicking motion?". I thought I saw a little hitch in there, and if you're that wide open to put the puck in the net even when you're being hooked a little bit, I'm not giving you the goal.

MacTavish: I'm saying goal. I think these things drives the guys at the office absolutely crazy. It's such a fine line. If it's not a clear-cut distinct kicking motion, I say you let 'em all go.

Jones: I'm saying no goal. The referee was in perfect position behind the goal looking straight out at that puck. Arnott turns his foot to kick right at the end, and that's where the referee was - he was perfectly placed to make the call, and "no goal" was the correct one.

Question 4: Who won the old fight between players Craig MacTavish and Keith Jones?

Jones: I think I got a couple in early, but based on the video, I'll give it to Mac-T. I told everybody I never lost a fight, but I guess I lied.

MacTavish: If there's any better footage to reinforce the elimination of fighting, I don't know what it is. I don't know who the winner was in that one.

McKenzie: So I get the deciding vote? All right, I'll go with Mac-T, because one guy was throwing punches, and the other one was just holding on.

Bonus question for MacTavish: Was there any player more annoying in the NHL than Keith Jones?

MacTavish: Claude Lemieux. Jonesy was a close second for sure.

Jones: At least I got his helmet off.
