The National Hockey League has suspended Anaheim Ducks defenceman James Wisniewski two games for his forearm blow to the head of Phoenix forward Shane Doan in Saturday's 3-2 Coyotes shootout win.
The Coyotes were called for too many men on the ice in the first period and while killing the penalty, Doan took a hard check to the head by Wisniewski as he crossed the Ducks blueline. Doan was staggered on the play but eventually skated back to the bench.
No penalty was called on Wisniewski, but he and Coyotes defenceman Keith Yandle fought as soon as the play stopped and both received five minutes for fighting. Yandle also received two minutes for instigating and a 10-minute misconduct.
Wisniewski will forfeit $28,497.40 and will be eligible to return Saturday against the Coyotes.
