Marshawn Lynch appears to be headed for a return to the NFL with his hometown Oakland Raiders.

According to a report from Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Raiders and Seattle Seahawks are expected to work out a trade for Lynch, contingent on Lynch reworking his contract.

Rapoport adds Lynch has permission from the Seahawks to talk to the Raiders and re-work his contract with the team.

Per NFL rules, Lynch would not have to un-retire were he to be traded, according to Rapoport, although ESPN's Ed Werder reported Thursday the running back has begun the reinstatement process.

Lynch has previously visited the Raiders team facilities this off-season as rumours swirled he was considering a return.

Lynch took last year off after playing the last six seasons with the Seattle Seahawks.

The Raiders have Jalen Richard and DeAndre Washington, both coming off impressive rookie seasons, on their roster at running back, but still need a power back to pair them with after Latavius Murray left as a free agent, signing with the Minnesota Vikings.
