This is the first time Shanahan has spoken since the team fired Randy Carlyle as head coach on Tuesday.

One of Shanahan’s first moves as team president was signing Carlyle to a two-year extension ahead of the season.

The Leafs have gone 2-8 their past 10 games and fallen out of their playoff position.
