Talking Phaneuf
TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie is hearing lots of trade chatter regarding Toronto Maple Leafs captain Dion Phaneuf and is starting to think he could move prior to the February 29th deadline.
TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger and Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun both indicate possible interest from the Ottawa Senators.
TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun does not think the Dallas Stars, who showed interest a year ago, are a possible destination unless the Maple Leafs are willing to eat salary.
Moving Marleau?
Kevin Kurz of CSN Bay Area has five destinations and possible returns for San Jose Sharks forward Patrick Marleau, the longest tenured member of the team. Kurz lists the Anaheim Ducks (Sami Vatanten or Hampus Lindholm), St. Louis Blues (Kevin Shattenkirk) and Nashville Predators (Ryan Ellis) as possible trade partners.
Of the Ducks, who are one of the three teams Marleau listed as an acceptable destination earlier in the year, Kurz says that a deal could be difficult because the teams may meet in the playoffs, but it could make sense for both sides.
