Canada: 6 W - 1 T - 0 L, Gold Medal

Team Canada was its typical deep and well-balanced self in 1994 and, against an unspectacular field, that was more than good enough for gold.

Canada put together a 6-0-1 record to beat Sweden by a single point in the standings. Canada had beaten the Swedes 6-4 in their head-to-head meeting and tied the third place Russians to clinch the gold.

The 1994 tournament in Ostrava, Czech Republic, was a relatively low-scoring event. Martin Gendron led the team in scoring with 10 points, including six goals. In all, nine Canadians scored at least twice, proving their depth once again.

The solid team effort was evident in the fact that no Canadian player was named to the tournament all-star team. Goaltender Jamie Storr was, however, named the top goaltender even though he split time with Manny Fernandez.

That's not to say there were no great players on the team. Jason Allison, Anson Carter, Mike Peca and Jeff Friesen would all find their niche in the upper echelons of the NHL in future years.

The defence corps was young but solid, led by returning stalwarts Brent Tully and Nick Stajduhar. Future NHLers Brendan Witt and Bryan McCabe showed their stuff, too.

In all, there were nine first round NHL Draft picks on the roster.

The victory gave Canada back-to-back titles for the second time, sparking an unprecedented run of five straight golds.
