Flames sign Huberdeau to eight-year, $84 million contract

The Calgary Flames have signed newly-acquired forward Jonathan Huberdeau to an eight-year, $84 million contract extension with an average annual value of $10.5 million.

Huberdeau and defenceman Mackenzie Weegar were acquired from the Florida Panthers on July 22 as part of the return for Matthew Tkachuk.
Huberdeau, 29, finished last season with 30 goals and NHL-best 85 assists for a career high 115 points. In 671 career games with the Panthers, the Saint-Jerome, Que. native has scored 198 goals and added 415 assists for 613 points. He was originally selected third overall by the Panthers in the 2011 NHL Draft.
A two-time All-Star, Huberdeau was awarded the Calder Trophy following the 2012-13 season.
