adidas has landed themselves in hot water resulting in a class -action lawsuit over the marketing of their “authentic” NHL jerseys.

TSN’s Rick Westhead broke the news on Twitter yesterday confirming that adidas is being sued in the state of Florida over their NHL jerseys that are being cited as misleading and falsely advertised.

What the issue boils down to is their use of the word “authentic” in the marketing of the jerseys. After review and comparison between game worn NHL jerseys and the jerseys being marketed as authentic, many differences were found including stitching patterns, the size of the head hole and the placement of some labeling. If the jerseys were to be marketed as replicas, there would be less of an issue but because adidas markets them as authentic and sells them at a price point to reflect that, there is a problem.

The jerseys in question are sold via Fanatics.com and other third party vendors. adidas has yet to comment on the matter.
