Astros unveil City Connect jersey
If there was any concern the Astros aren’t paying tribute enough to their NASA ties, their latest uniforms paints an out of this world picture to solidify the connection. On Sunday, the Houston Astros revealed their Nike City Connect jerseys which declares one of the city’s most popular nicknames, Space City, across the front in bright space-inspired lettering. The jersey also features a grid pattern meant to resemble a star chart and a mission patch on the sleeves further honouring the Houston’s history of great contributions to space exploration.

The Nike MLB City Connect program launched last season in an effort to celebrate new baseball traditions and invite new fans into the game. With a focus on the unique and individual qualities of each city, the uniforms aim to build a stronger bong between each club and its beloved city.
Long-time Astros fans may also notice the new-age uniforms pay homage to the iconic rainbow uniforms of the 1970s weaving the old in with the new.
“The Astros retro elements with a forward-thinking approach matches the constant pursuit of new opportunities and extraordinary wins that represent the great city of Houston,” says Anita Sehgal, the Astros’ senior vice president of communications and marketing.
“This uniform is a thank you to our fans for their relentless support to the Astros and to growing our great community. We don’t see this as just a uniform, but as a movement for our city and we are excited to share it today.”
The Astros will debut their new threads on April 20th when they host the Los Angeles Angels at Minute Maid Park and will continue to wear them on Monday home games for the rest of the season.
