Report: Bayern to replace Nagelsmann with Tuchel
Julian Nagelsmann's time at the helm of Bayern Munich is at its end.
Fabrizio Romano reports the team has fired its 35-year-old head coach and will replace him with former Borussia Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel.
Gianluca Di Marzio reports Tuchel's deal with the team is through the 2024-2025 season.
An official announcement is expected on Friday.
Nagelsmann was in his second season with the club, having arrived in the summer of 2021 after stints at RB Leipzig and Hoffenheim.
Under Nagelsmann, the team won last season's Bundesliga title, marking a 10th straight for the club, but struggled domestically this season by their standards. Bayern currently sits second in the table, one point behind leaders BVB. Outside of the league, Bayern has advanced to the quarterfinals stage of both the DFB-Pokal, where they are set to meet Freiburg, and the Champions League, where a date with Manchester City awaits.
Tuchel, 49, spent 11 years managing in his native Germany with stints at Augsburg, Mainz and Dortmund. He led BVB to the 2017 DFB-Pokal title. Since leaving Germany, Tuchel coached in France with Paris Saint-Germain, with whom he won two Ligue 1 titles, and in England with Chelsea, with whom he led to the 2021 Champions League title.
The Krumbach, Germany native had been out of a job since his dismissal from Stamford Bridge last fall.
Bayern is next in action on Apr. 1 when they host Dortmund in a high-stakes league match.
