MUNICH - Bayern Munich says striker Claudio Pizarro has torn muscles in his right thigh and will be sidelined for weeks.

The 36-year-old forward was injured in practice this week, and the injury was confirmed on Wednesday. Pizarro could miss the rest of the year.

The veteran Peru forward is a backup in Bayern and is often used by coach Pep Guardiola off the bench.

Pizarro joins Bastian Schweinsteiger, Holger Badstuber, Javi Martinez and Thiago Alcantara on the injured list.
