Capitals edge Golden Knights to win first Stanley Cup in franchise history
The Washington Capitals are Stanley Cup champions. Lars Eller scored the game-winning goal at the 12:23 mark of the third period as the Capitals edged the Vegas Golden Knights 4-3 in Game 5 Thursday night to capture their first Stanley Cup in franchise history.

LAS VEGAS — The Washington Capitals are Stanley Cup champions.
Washington downed the Vegas Golden Knights 4-3 on Thursday to take the Cup final in five games.
The victory marks the first title for the Capitals in their 43-year history, and also the first for captain Alex Oveckhin and head coach Barry Trotz.
The Capitals dropped Game 1 before winning four in a row to take the Cup final.
