Capitals sign D Roy with six-year deal, featuring $5.75M AVV

The Washington Capitals have signed defenceman Matt Roy to a six-year, $34.5 million contract. 

The deal carries a cap hit of $5.75 million.

The 29-year-old American had five goals and 20 assists over 81 games with the Los Angeles Kings in 2023-24, his sixth year with the franchise. 

Los Angeles selected Roy in the seventh round of the 2015 NHL Draft, recording 24 goals and 82 assists over 369 career games. 

The Capitals also signed forward Taylor Raddysh on Monday, striking a one-year, $1 million deal.

Raddysh had five goals and 14 points in 73 games last season for the Chicago Blackhawks.

Washington added another forward on Day 1 of free agency, inking forward Brandon Duhaime to a two-year, $3.7 million contract. 

Duhaime skated in 80 games split between the Minnesota Wild and Colorado Avalanche last season, scoring five goals with 13 points.
