The Minnesota Wild have traded forward Charlie Coyle to the Boston Bruins for forward Ryan Donato and a conditional fifth-round draft pick, the teams announced Wednesday.

The 26-year-old Coyle has 10 goals and 18 assists in 60 games so far this season while playing an average of 17:13 of ice time per game.

“The Bruins are excited to add Charlie Coyle to our immediate lineup,” said Bruins general manager Don Sweeney in a news release. 

“Charlie brings unique qualities to our team – he is an experienced, productive, two-position player with size, skill and speed. Charlie will provide the necessary depth in all areas of our game as we continue to battle for a playoff position. Charlie is a player our entire organization believes can help us now and moving forward. The Bruins also want to thank Ryan Donato for his contributions to our organization, and we wish him much success in his NHL career. He is a special young man with a bright future in the league.”

Coyle has spent his entire six-year career in Minnesota, debuting with the club during the 2012-13 season. Coyle's best season came in 2016-17 when he scored 18 goals and added 38 assists for a career-high 56 points. 

He was listed ninth on TSN Hockey's Trade Bait List. 

The American carries a $3.2 million cap hit through next season on the five-year contract he signed with the Wild in 2014. He will become an unrestricted free agent in July of 2020. 

Donato, 22, has six goals and three assists in 34 games this season. He is in the final year of his entry-level contract, which carries a cap hit of $900,000 and is set to become a restricted free agent.

He was selected in the second round (No. 56 overall) in the 2014 Draft and has spent the entirety of his brief NHL career with Boston.

Following their matchup with the Vegas Golden Knights Wednesday night, the Bruins will be back in action Saturday in St. Louis against the Blues, while Minnesota will play in New York against the Rangers Thursday night.
