Czechs down Swiss to capture bronze, first medal at women's worlds

HERNING, Denmark — Czechia claimed the bronze medal at the women's world hockey championship with a 4-2 win Sunday over Switzerland.

The Czechs, coached by former Canadian defender Carla MacLeod of Calgary, reached the final four of the tournament for the first time.

Natalie Mlynkova scored twice and the Czechs also got goals from Daniela Pejsova and Vendula Prybylova on Sunday.

Goaltender Klara Peslarova stopped 18 shots for the win and assisted on a goal.

Alina Marti and Nicole Vallario scored for the Swiss with their goaltender Andrea Braendli turning away 23 shots in the loss.

Canada and the U.S. met in the gold-medal game later Sunday.
