Devils retain F Tootoo with new contract
The New Jersey Devils signed Jordin Tootoo to an undisclosed contract on Tuesday. Tootoo spent just 11 games with the Detroit Red Wings last season, totaling one assist, but logged 51 games for Grand Rapids of the AHL and picked up six goals and 12 assists. Detroit chose to buy out the remainder of his three-year deal.

Tootoo spent just 11 games with the Detroit Red Wings last season, totaling one assist, but logged 51 games for Grand Rapids of the AHL and picked up six goals and 12 assists. Detroit chose to buy out the remainder of his three-year deal.
The former fourth-round pick of Nashville in 2001 has compiled 49 goals and 134 points along with 808 penalty minutes in 539 regular-season appearances for the Predators and Red Wings since 2003.
New Jersey had signed the Manitoba native to a professional tryout contract earlier in September.
The Devils also assigned defenseman Peter Harrold, forwards Steve Bernier and Cam Janssen to Albany of the American Hockey League.
