NEW YORK, N.Y. - New Jersey Devils forward Devante Smith-Pelly has been fined $2,000 for diving/embellishment.
The NHL announced the fine Thursday. Smith-Pelly, acquired by the Devils in a trade with the Montreal Canadiens on Feb. 29, received the citations playing for his former club.
He was issued a warning after an incident at Minnesota on Dec. 22. His second infraction came in the second period at Washington on Feb. 24, when Capitals centre Nicklas Backstrom received a minor penalty for slashing on the play.
