With performance of the night and fight of the night bonuses in his last two fights, Canadian Welterweight Matt Dwyer could be competing in one of the most interesting matches of the night when he faces Randy Brown on the Fight Pass prelims of UFC Fight Night New Jersey.

Brown will be familiar to anyone who has been watching the UFC’s web series Dana White: Looking for a Fight, as one of the men that impressed the promotion’s president enough to earn himself a place in the UFC.

Dwyer will be familiar to anyone that saw the UFC’s list of 10 best knockouts from 2015 where he scored a highlight reel Superman punch finish against William Macario. Making that list was a huge honour for the 26-year-old.

“It’s a pretty awesome list to be on, I come from a pretty small town in Kelowna and we’ve got four fighters coming from our gym and we haven’t trained anywhere else,” Dwyer told TSN.ca. “It’s awesome to put Kelowna on the map.”

Dwyer, in fact, holds an overall 8-3 MMA record with all of his wins coming by KO or TKO.  Despite that fact, he’s willing to take the fight wherever it needs to go for him to come away with the victory.

“If a submission presents itself I’ll take it,” said Dwyer. “All my wins are by knockout because I come in for the finish, I go in for the kill like I’m trying to beat this guy.  If I get a good top position I’m not going to be looking for an arm bar I’m going to keep ground and pounding till the referee stops it because that’s just my style.”

“I’ll capitalize on any position, I don’t care how I win, I just want to win and I’m ready for anything.”

As for facing one of White’s hand-picked fighters, Dwyer thinks his opponent will be in over his head making his UFC debut.

“If you want to compare my last five opponents to the last five that he’s faced it’s definitely a whole different ballgame," said Dwyer. "The guy he fought to get into the UFC was a guy with one win and one loss and then when we found out he was on the Dana White: Looking for a Fight show, it made sense."

"Not taking anything away from the guy, he got his chance and he’s got nothing to lose, he’s coming in for his first UFC fight and I’m sure he’s going to be hungry.  He’s fighting in his home town and I’m coming down there and I’m looking to hand him his first loss.”

Despite the extra eyes that will be on the bout because of the web show, Dwyer is not looking for a statement win, instead planning to do his job and come away with a positive result.

“I’m going to treat it like any other fight, just get in there and do my job and get the win,” said Dwyer. “I know what I can do and I know what to do to beat this kid and I know what to be prepared for.  I know how to get out of a bad position and I know how to keep a good position.  I can take a hit and I can definitely throw a hit.  I plan on looking like a real professional that night and doing my job very well.”
