Elks QB Ford exits game vs. Lions with injury

Published

Edmonton Elks quarterback Tre Ford exited Sunday's game against the visiting BC Lions in the second quarter with an apparent rib injury and did not return.

Ford was injured as he attempted to run the ball and was hit by Lions linebacker Ryder Varga. McLeod-Bethel Thompson came in to replace Ford with a minute left in the quarter.

The 26-year-old Canadian pivot completed all six of his pass attempts and threw for 96 yards as Edmonton led 16-10 at the time of his injury.

Bethel-Thompson went on to throw for 171 yards with a touchdown and interception as the Elks beat the Lions 33-16 for their second win of the season.

This was Ford's second start of the season after picking up Edmonton's first win last week against the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Ford has thrown for 473 yards with five touchdowns and one interception over five appearances in 2024, his third campaign in Edmonton.

The Elks, who now own a 2-7 record, are in Hamilton on Saturday to battle the 2-7 Tiger-Cats in Week 11 action.
