Woods well back as making cut appears unlikely at Open Championship
Tiger Woods' opening round at Royal Troon is in the books and the odds appear to be against him making the cut.
Woods finished the day 8-over at the 152nd Open Championship, well back of the leaders, who are 4-under. He was tied for 140th in the field upon finishing.
Tiger started strong with two pars before a birdie on the third hole, but things went downhill from there. He had a bogey on the fourth hole and a double-bogey on five and never found his way back to close to even.
Here's the full breakdown of how the 15-time major winner fared on Day 1 of The Open Championship:
Open Championship leader: -5 (Shane Lowry)
Woods' Round 1 score: +8, T140
Here is a hole-by-hole look at Woods' round:
Hole 1: Par 4 (Par) - Woods found the front of the green with his approach and two-putted for a sweat-free opening par.
Hole 2: Par 4 (Par) - Like the first hole, Tiger two-putted from the front of the green to stay at even-par for the day.
Hole 3: Par 4 (Birdie) - Woods rolled in a birdie putt and gave the crowd a small fist pump, getting him into the red for the first time this week.
Hole 4: Par 5 (Bogey) - Woods hammered his birdie try way past the hole and missed the comebacker to fall back to even for the day.
Hole 5: Par 3 (Double Bogey) - Tiger's tee shot on the first Par 3 of the opening-nine found a deep bunker, forcing him to come out sideways into the rough. Woods then two-putted for a double-bogey.
Hole 6: Par 5 (Par) - Woods was unable to take advantage of either front-nine Par 5, rolling a birdie putt just past the hole to stay at 2-over.
Hole 7: Par 4 (Bogey) - Tiger slid his birdie try past the hole and could not hole the par-save, dropping him to 3-over through seven holes.
Hole 8: Par 3 (Bogey) - Woods' slide continues with his fourth score of bogey or worse in the past five holes.
Hole 9: Par 4 (Par) - Tiger got back on track, making par to close out his opening nine with a 40.
Hole 10: Par 4 (Par) - Tiger crushed his tee shot and left his birdie try a hair short, allowing him to tap-in for back-to-back pars.
Hole 11: Par 4 (Double bogey) - Woods had all kinds of issues on No. 11, taking a penalty off the tee and two-putting for his second double-bogey of the day.
Hole 12: Par 4 (Bogey) - The three-time Open champ lost his approach shot right into the gallery and couldn't save par, making yet another opening-round bogey.
Hole 13: Par 4 (Birdie) - Woods stuck his approach close and found the bottom of the cup with his birdie try, getting him back to 6-over.
Hole 14: Par 3 (Par) - Woods found the green with his tee shot and nestled his long birdie putt close, tapping in for a sweat-free par.
Hole 15: Par 4 (Par) - Woods confidently rolled in a par-save from a few feet away to stay at 6-over for the day.
Hole 16: Par 5 (Par) - Tiger got up-and-down from a deep greenside bunker for an impressive par-save.
Hole 17: Par 3 (Bogey) - Woods missed the green long and was unable to get up and down for the second hole in a row, falling back to 7-over for the day.
Hole 18: Par 4 (Bogey) - Tiger closed out with yet another bogey, missing a short par save to close out at 79 for the day.
