Ice Chips: Leafs' Marner still out, Brodie likely to sit agin

Toronto Maple Leafs
Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner remained absent from practice on Friday, TSN's Mark Masters reports.
Marner has missed five games with a high-ankle sprain, last playing on March 7 against the Boston Bruins.
The 26-year-old from Markham, Ont., scored a goal and skated 20:51 minutes in the contest.
Head coach Sheldon Keefe said Friday the plan is for him to stay off the ice. Marner will not play this weekend against the Edmonton Oilers and the Carolina Hurricanes.
Marner has 25 goals and 76 points in 62 games this season.
Fellow forward Tyler Bertuzzi was also absent Friday after playing through an illness during Wednesday's game in Washington.
Keefe said Friday that Bertuzzi is feeling worse, now has different symptoms and is questionable for Saturday.
The Sudbury native has scored in two straight games and has 15 on the season. Bertuzzi has 34 points in 67 games.
Masters notes that T.J. Brodie projects to sit second straight game as a healthy scratch.
"I'd just like him to clear his head and that's a big part of it, is the mental part of it ... because of the demands we've put on him, he hasn't really had time to regroup & find himself," said Keefe.
Ryan Reaves was back on the ice before practice on Friday after missing Wednesday's win due to an eye injury.
Reaves, who was injured during a fight with Nicolas Deslauriers of the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday, skated Friday with a visor on. He is one of a handful of players in the league who does not wear a visor regularly.
Meanwhile, goaltender Matt Murray was on the ice in full pads ahead of the team's practice on Friday.
Murray has spend the entire season on LTIR after undergoing bilateral hip surgery in October. He given a timeline of six-to-eight months for recovery following the operation.
The 29-year-old went 14-8-2 with a .903 save percentage and a 3.01 goals-against average last season, his first in Toronto, while dealing with several different injuries over the campaign.
Pittsburgh Penguins
Jack St. Ivany is set to make his NHL debut for the Penguins against the Dallas Stars, the team announced Friday.
The 112th overall pick by the Penguins in the 2018 draft, St. Ivany has four goals and 15 points in 53 games played for the American Hockey League's Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
Anaheim Ducks
No. 2 overall pick Leo Carlsson left Thursday's game against the Chicago Blackhawks in the second period after a knee-on-knee collision and did not return.
The 19-year-old Swede collided with Alex Vlasic while cutting across the ice and needed help to get to the dressing room. Vlasic was not penalized on the play and Ducks head coach Greg Cronin said via The Athletic's Eric Stephens he felt there was "no intent at all" from the Blackhawks' defenceman.
Cronin did not have an update on Carlsson after the game, a 4-0 Anaheim victory.
Carlsson has already missed 20 games due to an MCL sprain and concussion. He has nine goals and 15 assists in 43 games so far this season.
Ottawa Senators
The Senators have recalled forward Angus Crookshank from the AHL's Belleville Senators, it was announced Friday morning.
Forward Zack Ostapchuk was assigned to Belleville in a corresponding move.
The 24-year-old Crookshank has one goal and one assist in seven NHL games this season and 24 goals and 22 assists in 50 AHL games.
Ostapchuk, 20, does not have a point in six NHL games in 2023-24. He has 13 goals and nine assists in 56 games with Belleville.
Washington Capitals
With winger Tom Wilson suspended until his hearing with the department of player safety, the Capitals recalled forward Matthew Phillips from the AHL's Hershey Bears on Friday. He will play this evening, head coach Spencer Carbery later said.
Phillips, 25, has one goal and five points in 30 games this season with the Capitals and Pittsburgh Penguins. He was claimed off waivers by the Penguins in February before being reclaimed by the Capitals in March.
Meanwhile, NHL.com's Tom Gulitti reports injured forward T.J. Oshie worked with the power play unit Friday, however Carbery told reporters he will not play this evening against the Carolina Hurricanes.
Oshie missed Wednesday's game against the Toronto Maple Leafs with an upper-body injury.
He has 11 goals and eight assists in 43 games so far this season.
Forward Aliaksei Protas also missed Wednesday's game against Toronto and will remain out Friday.
New York Islanders
Undrafted forward Cam Thiesing signed a two-year, two-way, entry-level contract with the New York Islanders Friday morning, the team announced.
The 22-year-old played this season at Ohio State University, scoring nine goals and adding seven assists in 31 games.
He had 32 goals and 29 assists in 108 career Big-10 games, including a career-high 15 goals in 2022-23, which led all Buckeyes.
Dallas Stars
Defenceman Jani Hakanpaa will not be available to play in the near future as he battles a lower-body injury, reports Stars' radio analyst Bruce LeVine.
Hakanpaa did not skate Friday and will miss his second consecutive game Friday against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
He has two goals and 10 assists in 64 games so far this season for Dallas.
