Ice Chips: Canucks recall Silovs following Demko injury

Vancouver Canucks

The Canucks have recalled goaltender Arturs Silovs from the AHL following goaltender Thatcher Demko's injury in Thursday's game against the Buffalo Sabres.

Silovs has a 4.11 goals-against average and .847 save percentage in seven starts this season.

Demko exited midway through the second period with back spasms and was replaced by backup Kevin Lankinen. Conor Garland had just scored to make the game 2-1 for Vancouver when Demko left for the locker room. 

Including Thursday's start, the 29-year-old appeared in six games this season, going 2-1-3 with an .879 save percentage and 3.43 goals-against average.


Vegas Golden Knights 

Goalie Ilya Samsonov was hit by a puck during a drill at practice on Friday and was down in pain on the ice. He was helped off and limped to the dressing room. 

The 27-year-old owns a 2.69 goals-against average and a .907 save percentage over 14 games wit the Golden Knights this season, his first in Vegas. 


Toronto Maple Leafs 

Defenceman Marshall Rifai was assigned to the AHL's Toronto Marlies, three days after he was called up from the minors when captain Auston Matthews was placed on the injured reserve. 

The 26-year-old has not played a game at the NHL-level this season, but has recorded two goals and two assists over 24 games with the Marlies. 


Ottawa Senators

Defenceman Nikolas Matinpalo has been loaned to the Belleville Senators of the AHL.

The 26-year-old native of Finland has played in one games with the Sens this season and 23 games in the minors, scoring two goals with the five assists.
