Steelers rookie running back Najee Harris showed his support for California’s fight against homelessness.

The former Alabama Crimson Tide player appeared at Governor Gavin Newsome’s press conference June 25 to introduce a partnership between the states Homekey program and Harris’ Da Bigger Picture Foundation.

“My name is Najee Harris… I am not a politician, I am just here to shed light on the situation of homeless and hunger in California. We are all in position to help,” he said.

He provided a brief history of his life before college football.
“Me and my family were once homeless moving around the Bay Area” Harris said. “But we were evicted numerous times and had to stay in homeless shelters, friends’ houses, cars but as family we stuck together and made it through these tough times.”

“Now I am in position to help people who were once in my shoes.”

Despite his family struggles, Harris was ranked the #2 overall prospect in 2017. After four years of championships and accolades in Alabama, he was drafted 24th overall by Pittsburgh this past March.
