London-based football club Hackney Wick FC has announced that the Netflix show Top Boy has become the team’s newest sponsor and have dropped their new kits for the 2022-2023 season.

As the East London borough’s first ever semi-professional team, Hackney Wick FC is a club based on community engagement and uniting the local diverse groups. The club was founded by former gang member Bobby Kasanga in 2015, who in partnership with menswear brand LABRUM’s designer Foday Dumbaya, sought to put together a collaboration between Top Boy — which was largely filmed in Hackney — and the local community.

The kits themselves feature LABRUM’s signature zig-zag design that is inspired by traditional African art. The Top Boy logo is featured on the center of the kit, while LABRUM branding can be found on the right sleeve and with Hackney Wick FC’s charity, Grassroots For Good is featured on the left.

“Sport has a unique ability to unite communities in a shared goal – to win together,” explained Dumbaya about the collection. “The work that Bobby has done for grassroots football by building Hackney Wick FC really resonates with me. When I was designing the kit I wanted to include a bold graphic that incorporated the rich diversity of Hackney and LABRUM’s celebration of West African heritage. The zig zag is synonymous here. I hope the players will wear the kit with pride.”

The new Hackney Wick FC kit can be bought online via the Kit Locker website.

Top Boy, executive produced by Drake, recently released its second season which is available to watch on Netflix
