TORONTO - Former NHL tough guy Colton Orr has retired after a 13-year professional career.

Orr played 477 career NHL games Boston Bruins, the New York Rangers and Toronto, piling up 1,186 penalty minutes.

The six-foot-three, 225-pound Winnipeg native only managed 12 goals and 12 assists in his NHL career, but his fighting ability won him a regular NHL job. He had back-to-back 82-game seasons with the Rangers in 2008-09, then the Maple Leafs in 2009-10.

Later in his career he had trouble sticking with an NHL club as the enforcer role fell out of favour in the league.

He failed to make the Leafs roster in 2014–15 and cleared waivers, appearing only in Toronto's final regular-season game. That would mark his last NHL appearance.

Orr played 10 games with Calgary's American Hockey League affiliate in Stockton, Calif., this season, putting up 15 penalty minutes in 10 games.

"I feel privileged to have played for a decade in the NHL and to have had the support of four great organizations in Boston, New York, Toronto and Calgary," Orr said in a statement. "I am grateful to have had the opportunity to play with great teammates and against great players, many of whom have become great friends.

"It has been an amazing journey that would not have been anywhere near as fulfilling as it was without the love and support of fans, friends, agents, GMs, coaches and family."
