Hurricanes' Brind’Amour: A 'chance' Andersen starts in Game 6
Veteran goalie Frederik Andersen might be set to make his playoff debut with the Carolina Hurricanes.
Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind'Amour says Andersen, who hasn't played in Carolina's first-round series against the New York Islanders due to illness and an undisclosed injury, got a lot of work in during practice on Thursday and thinks there's a "chance" he could play in Friday's Game 6 on Long Island.
Carolina leads the series 3-2 with 33-year-old Antti Raanta starting all five games in net, recording a 2.59 goals-against average with a .906 save percentage. He appeared in 27 games during the regular season, going 19-3-3 with a 2.23 GAA and a .910 save percentage.
Andersen, 33, played 34 games during the regular season for the 'Canes, recording a 21-11-1 record with a 2.48 GAA and a .903 save percentage. The native of Denmark, who signed a two-year contract with the Hurricanes ahead of last season, missed the team's playoff run to the second-round last year with an injury suffered late in the season.
Carolina failed to win the series at home on Tuesday, falling to New York 3-2.
