Blue Jackets acquire Provorov from Flyers; Philadelphia gets Peterson from Kings

The Columbus Blue Jackets have acquired defenceman Ivan Provorov from the Philadelphia Flyers as part of a three-team deal that also includes the Los Angeles Kings.
Here's how the full trade breaks down.
The Flyers sent Provorov and forward Hayden Hodgson to the Kings in exchange for goalie Cal Peterson, defenceman Sean Walker, defenceman Helge Grans and the Kings' 2024 second-round pick. The Blue Jackets acquired defenceman Kevin Connauton from Philadelphia in exchange for a 2023 first-round pick (22nd overall) and conditional second-round pick in either the 2024 or 2025 NHL Draft. The Kings then flipped Provorov to the Blue Jackets in exchange for Connauton.
The Kings will retain 30 per cent of Provorov's salary in the deal.
"Improving our blue line has been a priority for us and acquiring Ivan gives us an established left-shot defenseman who is still a young player with his best seasons in front of him," said Blue Jackets general manager Jarmo Kekalainen. "He immediately improves our group on defense as he is durable, has great skill, skates well, is an excellent passer with an accurate shot and can effectively play at both ends of the ice."
TSN Hockey Insider Chris Johnston adds that the Kings are expected to make an attempt at re-signing pending unrestricted free agent defenceman Vladislav Gavrikov after clearing cap space with the deal.
Gavrikov, 27, was acquired by the Kings from the Blue Jackets ahead of the trade deadline earlier this year
Provorov, 26, scored six goals and totaled 27 points in 82 games with the Flyers last season.
Originally selected with the seventh overall pick in the 2015 Draft by the Flyers, Provorov debuted for the team in the 2016-17 season.
Provorov is entering the fifth season of a six-year, $40.5 million deal signed in September of 2019. He will become an unrestricted free agent when the deal expires at the end of the 2024-25 season.
The Yaroslavl, Russia native was the first player in the NHL to refuse to wear a Pride Night-themed jersey last season, citing “religious beliefs.”
In 532 career NHL games, all with the Flyers, Provorov has 65 goals and 217 points.
