Oilers' McDavid, Canucks' Myers to have hearings for cross-checking

Published

Edmonton Oilers centre Connor McDavid and Vancouver Canucks defenceman Tyler Myers will each have a hearing for cross-checking, NHL Player Safety announced Sunday.

Both players received a match penalty late in Saturday's contest.

While attempting to tie the game in the final minute of regulation, McDavid got tangled up with Canucks winger Conor Garland, eventually cross-checking him in the face just moments before the final buzzer.

Away from the ensuing scrum, Myers cross-checked Oilers defenceman Evan Bouchard in the face in similar fashion.

All 11 skaters on the ice received penalties for their actions in the dying moments as the struggling Canucks would hold on to beat the Oilers 3-2.

The date and time of the hearings have yet to be decided.

Edmonton sits tied with the Vegas Golden Knights for first place in the Pacific Division with a 29-14-3 record and are six points behind the Washington Capitals for the best record in the NHL.

The Canucks are in fifth place in the Pacific Division with a 20-15-10 record and are one point behind the Calgary Flames for the final wild-card spot in the Western Conference.

Both teams have each won a game in their season series with the final matchup coming on Thursday in Vancouver.
