Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Dalton Pompey fouled a ball off his right knee in a split-squad game against the Pittsburgh Pirates and was removed following the at-bat, according to MLB.com's Gregor Chisholm. He was replaced after the strikeout by Roemon Fields in the bottom of the first inning.

Chisholm adds that Pompey is currently being evaluated.

Before his unfortunate stroke of luck Friday, Pompey was enjoying a productive spring training as he looks to reestablish himself within the Blue Jays organization.

In seven spring games, the 26-year-old was hitting .316 with one home run and four RBI in 19 at bats. He has appeared in just 13 big league games since 2015.

TSN Blue Jays Reporter Scott Mitchell wrote the following earlier this week when projecting the Jays' Opening Day roster:

The wildcard [in Toronto's outfield] is Pompey, who’s out of options and has looked solid this spring as he attempts to erase three years of frustration. Reluctant to part ways with Pompey up to this point, there’s a scenario that has the Jays starting the year with five outfielders, which could leave just seven arms in the bullpen.
