TORONTO — Edmonton quarterback Mike Reilly, Ottawa receiver Greg Ellingson and Toronto defensive lineman Victor Butler have been named the CFL's top performers for July.
Reilly steered his team to a flawless 5-0 start to the first six weeks of the 2017 season, posting nine touchdowns, 1,628 passing yards and a 72.3 per cent efficiency rating along the way.
He has passed for over 260 yards every week, and threw 220 consecutive pass attempts without an interception until finally getting picked off in a Week 6 win over B.C. In that same game Reilly completed a 108-yard pass to Vidal Hazelton, now the longest reception in Edmonton history.
Ellingson has eclipsed 100 yards three times in 2017, including standout performances against Toronto in Week 3 (170 yards, one touchdown) and Montreal in Week 5 (149 yards, one touchdown).
He made the longest reception of his CFL career in Week 5 against Montreal, an 80-yard catch for a touchdown that gave the Ottawa its only win of the season so far.
Ellingson leads the league in receiving yards (643) and receptions caught (39).
Butler has racked up three forced fumbles and 17 defensive tackles, including seven quarterback sacks, over five games so far in his rookie CFL season.
He had a standout performance in Week 3 against Ottawa, where he collected five defensive tackles and three sacks against quarterback Trevor Harris for a total loss of 25 yards.
Butler, who missed Toronto's game last week with an injury, leads the CFL with seven sacks.
