The Ottawa Senators placed Andrew Hammond on waivers on Saturday.

The 28-year-old goaltender had been reticent to accept a conditioning stint to the team's American Hockey League-affiliate Binghamton Senators.

Hammond hasn't played since an October 28 game against the Calgary Flames in which he incurred a groin injury.

“We’ve talked about it and it’s ultimately something that’s in the player’s hands,” Hammond told Bruce Garrioch on Thursday in regards to an AHL stint. “Once I feel it’s not beneficial for me to be here and practising with NHL players, we’ll definitely address that."

A native of White Rock, BC, Hammond has made only two appearances for the Sens this season, going 0-1-0 with a goals against average of 4.50 and a .793 save percentage.

Hammond found himself behind Craig Anderson and Mike Condon, acquired last month from the Pittsburgh Penguins, in the goaltending pecking order in Ottawa.

Hammond is in the second year of a three-year, $4.05 million deal signed on the heels of his remarkable late season run in 2015 to lift the Sens into the postseason.

The Senators host the Florida Panthers on Saturday night.
