The Ottawa Senators will be without Marc Methot "for weeks" after the defenceman's finger was "shattered" on a slash by Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby Thursday night, Senators head coach Guy Boucher announced.
Methot left Thursday's win in the first period and did not return. Crosby was not called for a penalty on the play, which left Methot's finger in a gruesome state.
The 31-year-old sits fourth on the Senators in average ice time at just over 20 minutes per game. He owns 12 assists and a plus-13 rating in 67 games this season.
The Senators won Thursday's game 2-1 in a shootout.
Ottawa has nine games remaining in the regular season, which will conclude on April 9.
